Position Summary

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, this position is responsible for providing HR support on all personnel matters. This role will support both employees and managers, acting as a first point of contact within the HR Department and responsible for ensuring that Company HR matters are in line with Company policies and procedures while maintaining adherence to the Canada Labour Code and other applicable employment legislation.

This role will provide general confidential support to staff and management as required including assistance regarding benefits, policy interpretation and problem resolution, along with all other support as needed. The incumbent will be responsible for day-to-day HR duties such as, but not limited to: HRIS management and support, handling internal/external correspondences, full cycle recruitment, new hire onboarding, administrative support, responding to employee questions and inquiries, preparing work-related documents, benefits correspondence and all other HR support as required. 



Requirements

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Manage and maintain HRIS system, including employee personnel files
  • Attend job fairs, expos, conferences, recruiting and community events
  • Provide assistance pertaining to employee inquiries and concerns
  • Coordinate employee leaves and return to work programs
  • Benefits administration and processing
  • WCB/WSIB correspondence and management
  • Administer employee recognition and referral programs
  • Assist in the completion of Annual Employment Equity Report
  • Assist with performance management in a timely and accurate manner
  • Assist in preparation of employment letters and other required employment documentation
  • Full cycle recruitment including posting and advertising positions, pre-screening, scheduling interviews, preparing interview packages, participating in interviews, completing reference checks, creating offer letters and managing new hire documentation
  • Source and attract top talent
  • Provide service to internal and external customers on all HR inquiries and requests
  • Conduct exit interviews
  • Make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures and regulations
  • Perform all other human resources duties as assigned by HR Manager and/or Senior Leadership
  • Provide ongoing HR support in the absence of the HR Manager

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience in a Human Resources support or advisor role
  • Management experience an asset
  • Knowledge of recruitment techniques and all aspects of hiring including social media platforms
  • Experience administering policies and procedures
  • Experience maintaining an HRIS systems considered preferred
  • Knowledge of Canada Labour Code considered an asset
  • Experience with benefits administration
  • Experience with WCB/WSIB administration
  • Strong knowledge of office programs, including word, excel, power point and outlook
  • Experience working in a unionized environment with ability to read and understand collective agreements preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain for WAA pass
  • Valid driver’s license

Working Conditions

  • Travel by flight required to our operational bases, recruiting events, and other needs determined by the company
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
